I just passed exam 70-480. I wanted to wait until after I took the test to review this book. First off, believe the other reviews who say this book is full of errors: it is. I didn't believe it could be so bad, but it is. There are also lots of type-o's and grammar mistakes. It's like this was rushed to print with absolutely no editing or proof reading. The only good thing I have to say about this book is: once I realized how many errors there were, I double-checked everything myself to make sure what the book said was (or wasn't) accurate and that helped me learn the material better. As far as learning the subject matter, you are better off with the Training Guide. As far as prepping for the test, you are better off with the Transcender and/or Measure Up practice tests. If you only rely on this book to pass the exam, I can pretty much guarantee that you will not pass. I'm going for other MCSD exams next and the reviews of other Microsoft Press books are even worse than this one, so I will not be purchasing any more Microsoft Press books; I've learned my lesson.

Because the exam covers such a wide range of technologies (HTML5/Javascript/and CSS3), this book glosses over many concepts. While this book provides an introduction to these technologies in most chapters the book does not cover important concepts in sufficient depth to pass the exam.In particular, Delorme Chapters on Objectives 1.5 and 1.6 do a very poor job of laying out the features of Javascript. The Javascript language has type, scoping and inheritance issues that are unique to its syntax. Programming in Javascript requires a solid understanding of these issues. I would recommend Dane Cameron’s book “HTML5 Javascript & JQuery” as a much better alternative to Delorme. Among the many Javascript outages in this book are:• === operator• Call and apply methods• This keyword – while covered on page 91 needs a great deal more explanation• ClosuresI would have preferred more and better coverage of the new HTML5 elements and less coverage of the many graphical elements that while interesting are not that important for the exam.I have found other “Exam Ref” books much more useful in preparing for exams than this book. I usually review the material in these books in the hours immediately before the exam to make sure I have a familiarity with all the topics which an exam will cover. I would recommend alternative summary materials for the Javascript portion of the exam.

Ordered for exam, just in case I failed first attempt. Fortunately/unfortunately never had the chance to use this as I passed the exam a day before they arrived. The entire exam was focused around antiquated xmlhttprequest DIY AJAX, which is not stressed in this book as much as it is on the exam. Perhaps the questions are randomly selected?

First edition: This book contains so many typos and errors that it will make you a better programmer by keeping you on your toes. It was written in 2014 and not updated since. I give it a low grade, but where else can you go for 70-480 exam prep? This book alone will not get you there so it’s a good starting point. Sorry Microsoft and Mr. Delorme, you must come up with a corrected second edition or get the wrath of few stars.

This book has a lot of glaring errors in it. The whole bit about overloading JS functions is just wrong; there's no functionality like that in JS, but the way the example is written makes it appear to work because of the way that JS allows you to call a function without defining the arguments that it takes. Truly terrible research; it's clear that Rick Delorme just assumed that if this worked, JS must have function overloading, without bothering to understand the language. Another example is the part about using JSON to transfer data via AJAX, which consistently fails to quote the keys, in spite of the fact that valid JSON must have double-quoted keys. Again, because this happens to work in the browser, Mr. Delorme thought it was actually valid.Unfortunately, due to all this confusion, it's not clear to me if the test is going to have these kinds of errors built into it.

Seems to be a good book to prepare the exam however it has errors in text which may mislead or confuse you. The sample questions are also misleading or unclear so you may make mistakes. It is unexpected a book from Microsoft written like that.

They need to proofread the quizzes. There were several objective reviews questions that had errors in wording causing the answers that were supposed to be correct to be incorrect.

No complaints about the book.Whereas, I gave 4 stars because the book arrived in bad condition.Pages 1-39 folded half way through, all most all of the pages in the book had folding marks, signs of mishandling the package while it was packaged/shipped.I have never seen this kind of mishandling by Amazon shipping till date. So bit concerned.

Born in Russia of Orthodox Jewish parents and reared in England, Cohen was a hustler, card sharp, and con man who was eventually forced to emigrate to Canada. There, he did the unthinkable in the early 20th century when he came to the aid of a Chinese man. This singular event endeared him to the Chinese community and changed his life. Ultimately, Cohen went to China, where he became the bodyguard of Sun Yat-sen, unifier of modern China. Soon after the turn of the century a Jewish Cockney adventurer arrived in Canada, seeking his--or somebody's--fortune. How he evolved into a general in the Chinese Republican Army, and a notorious soldier of fortune as well, is carefully recounted by Levy, a reporter for Time magazine, in his debut biography. Morris Cohen, scion of a religious Jewish family, spent his youth much like the Artful Dodger, picking pockets in the East End of London, precincts which were haunted by the likes of Jack the Ripper. After multiple arrests and a stint in a reformatory, the young hustler made his way to the Canadian prairies, where he became a sometime carny huckster and a full-time card shark, often attracting the attention of the local constabulary. But after service in the Great War, through force of personality and a loud voice, he became something of a community leader, especially among the beleaguered Chinese of the Canadian West. His affinity for the underdog soon made him their sole Caucasian lodge brother and eventually brought him to the attention of the father of the Chinese Republic, Sun Yat-sen. Cohen instantly became a Sun worshipper and, with guns on both ample hips, a bodyguard to the great man and, later, factotum to his widow, the redoubtable Soong. Through a hellish internment during WW II and the turbulent events in postwar China, Two-Gun plied his adventurer's trade. Alas, there's no retirement plan for that trade, and the aging rogue, without savings, became a tiresome Mnchausen, ever expansive about his powers. Levy attempts to set the tangled record straight after exhaustive, detailed research and interviews on three continents. The man he brings to life isn't Lawrence of Arabia; he is a sweeter character. Cohen had an interesting life, and Daniel S. Levy, a reporter for Time magazine, has carefully and colorfully laid it out in this new biography. Mr. Levy has sifted through a voluminous historical record, interviewed those still around who knew Cohen from the old days and, in particular, sorted out truth from legend in piecing together Cohen's peripatetic life.

This sorting out is particularly commendable, given that Cohen's life had, until now, been understood through "The Life and Times of General Two-Gun Cohen," a biography that Cohen wrote in the 1950's with Charles Drage, a writer. The Drage book, Mr. Levy shows convincingly, is filled with sensationalizing details that just happen not to be true.

Perhaps sitting around the lobbies of hotels in his waning years, Cohen was a blowhard, but he emphatically did not lead a boring life... Cohen's life was intertwined with the turmoil of the 20th century in China, to which Mr. Levy proves himself a reliable and informative guide.... Pravda (which means "truth") is a satire written at the height of Thatcherism when huge political changes were afoot. The play essentially studies, through black humour and close scrutiny, the tabloid ethic and the media industry as a get-rich-quick-fix.

In the programme for the original 1985 production of Pravda, Brenton wrote: "Pravda means 'the truth'. English newspapers aren't propaganda sheets. The question is, why do so many of them choose to behave as if they are?"

The character of Lambert Le Roux is a South African newspaper tycoon and the owner of several companies, striding his way through the regional papers en route to Fleet Street. Turning broadsheets tabloid, dumbing down the message, and stretching the truth, Le Roux takes no prisoners as he manipulates politicians and creates a media monopoly out of a once-respected industry.

Le Roux is bent on dominating England's press as he has elsewhere in the world. As we see Le Roux accomplish his aims, we see also how the press is not the organ of truth we like to think it is. The dissemination of the truth is no longer its primary goal under the 'Lambert Le Rouxs' of our world. What is important now is what sells.

The play is an epic satire on the media in the Thatcher era; a morality tale about how Andrew, a young liberal journalist, finally succumbs to Le Roux, who makes him editor of a tabloid; and - allegedly - the play is a direct representation of Rupert Murdoch who, even in 1985, was a major force in media ownership.

Howard Brenton's and David Hare's first collaboration since Brassneck in 1973, Pravda was premiered at the National Theatre in May 1985, starring Anthony Hopkins and directed by David Hare, and was awarded the London Standard Best Play Award, the City Limits Best Play Award, and the Plays and Players Best Play Award.

This Modern Classics edition features an introduction by Philip Roberts, Emeritus Professor of Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Leeds, and a foreword by Jonathan Church.

About the Author

Howard Brenton is a British dramatist, noted for his controversial political plays of the 1970s and 80s. He became resident dramatist at the Royal Court in 1972, following on from David Hare. His plays include Revenge, Brassneck (a colloboration with David Hare), The Churchill Play, Epsom Downs, The Romans in Britain, Pravda (also a collaboration with Hare), Berlin Bertie, Paul, Never So Good, and In Extremis. He also wrote the TV programme Spooks and has translated many plays into English. In 2011 he won a Theatregoers' Choice Award for Best Play for Anne Boleyn.

Sir David Hare is a British playwright and director, noted for his critical examination of post-war British society. In 1968 he became a founder of the travelling fringe company, Portable Theatre, which performed some of his early plays. The following year he became resident playwright at the Royal Court Theatre, before being made resident playwright at the Nottingham Theatre in 1973. In 1974 he co-founded the Joint Stock Company. His plays include Slag, Brassneck, Fanshen, Pravda, Racing Demon, Murmuring Judges, The Absence of War, Amy's View, Via Dolorosa, The Permanent Way, Stuff Happens, The Vertical Hour, The Power of Yes, Berlin and Wall. He was knighted in 1998.
